Each year, the Joyce’s Principle Office organizes an event in honour of Joyce Echaquan, an Atikamekw woman who died under tragic circumstances at Joliette Hospital on September 28, 2020. Through her courageous act, Joyce brought visibility to the violence and discrimination experienced by far too many Indigenous people within Canadian institutions.
This commemorative evening reflects a commitment to preserving her memory while creating a space for dialogue, awareness, and reconciliation. In 2026, the event will take the form of a musical and solidarity-focused evening featuring primarily Atikamekw, Innu, and Wendat artists, as well as speeches, testimonials, and opportunities to gather and connect around Joyce’s Principle.
The Evening in Honour of Joyce Echaquan will take place on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., at the Wendake Amphitheatre, located at 100 boulevard Bastien (view the map ), Wendake, Quebec. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Accessible seating is available for people using wheelchairs. We invite guests with specific needs to contact the organization or review the admission arrangements before attending.
The evening will take place in an alcohol-free environment. Booths will be set up on site, an auction will be held during the event, and products and documents from the Joyce’s Principle Office will also be available.
